BATES BOBCATS TAKE 1st PLACE IN THE MELLO YELLO TOURNEY AT ROGUE PAINTBALL! Out of about 25 teams and 13 games, the Bobcats went undefeated for the entire day, winning $1,000.00 in cash and prizes. Woooohoooo!

April 17, 2004

Our first rec day of the season was a HUGE success, even if someone's SUV got stuck in the mud on the way... we had a bunch of new people out, and everyone had a great time!

Smart Parts lawsuit update: AKALMP has been forced to discontinue it's line of electronic paintball guns, including the Viking and Excalibur. Next up: Eclipse, makers of the E-Blade frame. Please, if you have a choice, do not support Smart Parts, and tell your friends! Paintball should be about quality, integrity, and sportsmanship... NOT money.

December 21, 2003

Happy holidays everybody! We're still looking forward to paintballing in the spring, I just wanted to make people aware of a potentially serious issue to the paintball community. Smart Parts, makers of the popular Impulse and Shocker markers, have started to file patent infringement lawsuits against other companies that produce electronically controlled paintball markers. Indian Creek Designs (makers of the Bushmaster and BKO) have already been forced to settle out of court, and AKALMP (makers of the Merlin, Viking, and Excalibur) is being targeted next. If successful, Smart Parts will either have a monopoly on any marker that uses a microswitch to fire, or companies will have to pay royalty fees, driving up marker prices. While within Smart Parts' legal right, this action can have only negative consequences for the sport of paintball.

Looks like Flying Monkies has closed down for the winter, so for the moment, we're all out of a sport until it warms up around here. But fear not: we'll be back in the spring with plenty of rec ball and ideally some tournaments!

Here we are, welcome one and all to another fabulous paintballin' year at Bates College. Remember how we, the officers of the paintball club, are looking out for YOU the budget conscious player? We have purchased for this season (with graciously donated college funds, of course) five brand new Tippman Custom 98 markers with masks and tanks, as well as a SCUBA TANK for those of you who use air on your custom markers. We've also got a bunch of new JT jerseys, and don't forget about our chrono and tech support hotline (which happens to be the same as my phone number, x5142).

Geez, it's the end of the semester already. Where'd all that playing time go? Out with the weather I guess, and finals and stuff, you know how it is. Jon and I are COMMITTED to more playing next year, especially considering that my new custom cocker setup that took me like 4 months and some ludicrous amount of money to finish has been sitting in my room collecting DUST. Not that I have it in my room since we're not supposed to do that. Um, yeah. Since I'm off to visit my girlfriend and then intern somewhere nice and warm for short term, if you're especially interested in playing, email jkelley@bates.edu. See you all this fall!

Uh oh. Yeah, some bad news. Remember Jay's Indoor Paintball in Lewiston? That really really REALLY nice indoor speedball field like five blocks from here? Yeah, well, they kinda went out of business. Kinda. And right after we arranged a weekly, discounted practice schedule. Needless to say, we're pretty ******* **** ****** ** ******. Arg. Looks like we're back outside, for this season anyway.

Happy holidays, now that we're all back here and slaving away. Yeah, so I've been a little lazy keeping the news page updated. Oh well, its not like anyone reads this stuff, right? Just in case: welcome back to our president, Jon Kelley, who's been doing something nutzy in Germany for the last semester. Perhaps he'll be able to motivate us all to get up and go do stuff, yay!

December 7, 2002

A date which will live in infamy! Why? Because I've wrangled us this WICKEDLY cool domain name: www.bates.college-paintball.com! Pretty snazzy, eh? Oh yeah, happy Pearl Harbor day too.

November 16, 2002

Game day at Jay's Indoor Paintball in Lewiston. Great field, and we get lots of good deals, like discounted paint, free speedball, and free 45k fills when they finish their setup!

October 26 , 2002

Well, it only took them like 6 months, but the MRPL has finally posted pics of the Mello Yello II tourney from way back in may. You can see them on our brand spankin' new pictures page.

October 5 , 2002

A new indoor paintball field has just opened next to Chopsticks, like eight blocks from here. Grubman and I went and checked it out, and it looks really nice. Lots of space, new stuff, heating, and carpet on the field. They also do 45k air fills, yay! Looks like we've got a new home field, at least during the winter. Hopefully we can cut some deals with them for field fees, air, paint, etc.

September 4, 2002

WELCOME TO BATES, CLASS OF 06!

May 11, 2002

BATES ALPHA TAKES SECOND AT MELLO YELLO II!!! Team Bates Alpha racked up an impressive 464 points over 8 games, while Team Bates Beta... had a good time. More pics on the way (we are told).

April 2 , 2002

Congratulations to Josh Grubman who was voted club Vice President!

March 27, 2002

Someone somewhere screwed up, and for some reason that I don't really understand, the Budget Committee is giving us an additional $225 to spend next year. Not that we're complaining... God bless the convoluted inner workings of the student government!

March 28, 2002

Just so everybody knows, we aren't really supposed to be using markers anywhere on campus because of safety and insurance reasons. So, I've negotiated some space with the Outing Club. We can use a little back room of theirs for maintenence and chrono checks and stuff. If you're interested (or you want to borrow the chronograph) come talk to me (Evan) or Chris (the treasurer of the Outing Club). Just MAKE SURE EVERYONE WEARS A MASK!!! We have plenty of them to lend out and safety is our top priority.

March 26, 2002

Yay! The RA passed our bill! This has made our captain very happy since he personally fronted the $700 for the package (thanks Jon!). Also, the Budget Committee has voted us the sum of $380 for next year. This will pay for a nice CO2 fill station, some maintenence equipment, and travel money to get to fields and tournaments.

March 24, 2002

Okay, so the Co-Sponsorship Committee has voted us $700, and unless the RA doesn't pass it on monday we get the money! This is a good thing since we picked up (and paid for) that marker package we've had our eye on today. Tons of really awesome stuff for an awesome price. Dude, totally awesome. Totally. Anyway, most of the stuff seems in good working condition, which means club members no longer have to pay to rent!

March 21, 2002

Met with the RA Co-Sponsorship Committee to try and get $700 to buy that marker package. We'll find out tomorrow how much we got.

March 19, 2002

Submitted our budget for 2002-2003. We asked for $1655 to cover new Tippmann marker packages, a fill station, MRPL memberships, travel, and some other stuff.

March 18, 2002

Found someone willing to sell us 5 used Indian Creek AlleyCat II's, 2 Spyders, masks, tanks, a chrono, and a bunch of other stuff for $700! What a deal! If only we had some money...

March 18, 2002

The Bates Paintball Club is now official!!!
